The Puerto Rican musician René Pérez, better known as Resident, has harshly criticized the call to boycott the next edition of the Latin Grammy made by J Balvin because of what he considers a disparagement of the organizers to the Latin urban musicians.

“If the Grammys don’t value us, then why do I have 31 awards; I’m not urban, I don’t rap or what genre are we talking about? ”, the famous ex-member of Calle 13 replicates his Colombian colleague, who is only a candidate for “song of the year” and “best urban song” with his song “Agua” with Tainy.

He accuses him of not having made that appeal when in the last edition he obtained 13 nominations. “There you didn’t ask for a boycott. You sure had a change of clothes for each award. But since you won only one Grammy out of the 13 nominations, now the boycott is back “, recriminates them.

The controversy starts after the recent announcement this week of the candidates for the next ceremony of these awards, after which Balvin published the following message: “The Grammys don’t value us, but they need us. It is my opinion and nothing against the other genres because they deserve all the respect. But the trick is already boring. We give them ratings, but they don’t give us respect ”.

“From what I saw yesterday they nominated many colleagues who put him in, you bastard … C. Tangana, Rauw Alejandro, Akapellah, Nathy Peluso, Bad Bunny, Eladio Carrión, Ozuna, Karol G, Farruko, DJ Nelson, Jhay Cortez, Farina , Rafa Pabon, Youtuel, Beatriz Luengo, Myke Towers … ”, Pérez corrects him.

Along the same lines, it tells you that if there are styles that “They are not on any list” son “Jazz, salsa, bossa nova from Brazil or flamenco”.

“Your music is like a hot dog cart, which many people or almost everyone may like. But when these people want to eat well, they go to a restaurant and that restaurant is the one that earns Michelin stars ”, keep going.

The author of “Atrévete te” also reproaches Balvin for calling for a boycott in an edition that will be dedicated to the Panamanian Rubén Blades, “A guy who marked the history of Latin American music, a guy who, unlike you, writes his songs and feels them”, then add.

“If we complain about the Grammys, we have to complain about the Premio Lo Nuestro, the Youth Awards, the Billboard. Imagine, we are going to be complaining all year! ”, concludes your message.

The video of the response, which has already been deleted from Residente’s Instagram profile, is still circulating on networks thanks to the users who captured it and who, before being removed, had already added more than a million views.

In addition to Residente, the Cuban Yotuel has also responded to Balvin in another video. “The genre did not start when you arrived, it already existed and we were already banded”, he tells him, before reminding him that the genre was promoted by artists such as Tego Calderón, V Coci or his own ex-band, Orishas.
