As Lucid Motors prepares to launch its first model, the Lucid Air, on the European market starting this summer, the Menlo Park, California-based company, which aims to establish itself as a rival to Tesla , is set to get a big boost. of the Saudi government, which has ordered no less than 100,000 vehicles for the next ten years.

The agreement is officially for a firm order of 50,000 electric vehicles during this period, and the Saudi Ministry of Finance opens an option to purchase another 50,000 units.

In this way, we speak of a great boost from the Saudi government, but something logical if one takes into account that the public fund of the Arab country owns no less than 62% of the capital of Lucid Motors.

Vehicles shipped to Saudi Arabia will be assembled at Lucid Motors’ existing plant in Arizona, but will also be produced in the near future at a new production facility to be built in Saudi Arabia soon.

The order will see the delivery of the Lucid Air model, which is claimed to have a range of more than 800 kilometers, and pre-orders for the global market will begin in early 2020.

Subsequently, the agreement will include new electric models that are in the design phase within Lucid Motors. At the moment, we do not have much information about these new electric vehicles.

Lucid Motors claims that the first deliveries will begin in 2023, with an initial order of 1,000 to 2,000 vehicles during the first two years, before increasing at a rate of 4,000 to 7,000 cars a year from 2025.

In addition, the Lucid range has twin-motor propulsion systems, from the entry-level Pure version with 487 hp to the high-performance Dream Edition variant.

Depending on the version chosen and the combination of wheels and tires, the autonomy in the US EPA cycle ranges between 653 and 837 kilometers. In addition, Lucid promises a charging capacity of a maximum of 300 kW, which allows to recover about 500 kilometers of autonomy in about 20 minutes.
