Toyota Spain has presented its novelties for 2022. Among them, the brand’s first pure electric: the bZ4X . Among the main features of the SUV: X-MODE intelligent all-wheel drive; more than 450 km of autonomy; and a battery that will retain 90% of its capacity after 10 years, with a Toyota guarantee for one million km. The new SUV will be available in Spain, in presale format, in the coming months.

Toyota presented its first pure electric at the Shanghai Motor Show in April 2021. So, we already said that the development of the car was the result of the collaboration between the brand and Subaru . Then, the deadline for arrival on the market was established at the beginning of this 2022 and so it has been.

It is the first of many others that the brand wants to launch until 2025, specifically, 15 new models. Furthermore, and until 2030, that number will be 30 models, including the ‘ bZ ‘. This is how Akio Toyoda , president of Toyota Motor Corporation, explained it before the end of 2021 :

“Specifically, we plan to launch 30 battery electric models by 2030, offering a full lineup of battery electric vehicles in the commercial and passenger segments globally.”

Plus:

“Our goal is to achieve global sales of 3.5 million battery electric vehicles each year by 2030.”

The new bZ4X will be available in Spain in the coming months. Initially, a special launch edition ‘ Premiere Edition ‘ will arrive with high equipment.

Unlike other Toyota models, bZ4X will be specially marketed through a specific Kinto One offer with an all-inclusive contract: purchase of the vehicle, maintenance, wall charger at the customer’s home and connected services, among others.

Toyota bZ4X

Toyota itself explains that the bZ4X is also the first model in the bZ ( beyond Zero ) family of battery electric vehicles (BEVs). With them, the brand wants to take a step forward in the leadership of electrification.

The new bZ4X is a comfortable and spacious SUV. Its X-MODE intelligent all-wheel drive system provides class-leading off-road performance and characteristics, with independent electric motors for each axle.

It is the first model that Toyota develops based on the new specific platform for electric vehicles. It is based on the Toyota New Global Architecture for electric vehicles: ‘ Toyota New Global Architecture ‘  ( eTNGA ).

One of its important features is that it incorporates the battery as an integral part of the chassis, under the floor. This brings many benefits, such as: a lower center of gravity; good weight distribution between front and rear; and a particularly rigid body. All this contributes positively to safety, ride comfort and driving feel.

Propulsion and performance

The all-wheel drive SUV mounts an 80 kW/109 hp electric motor on each axle, delivering 336 Nm of torque. Its acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h is 7.7 seconds. As for its top speed, it is 160 km/h.

Toyota also offers a front-wheel drive variant. Its electric motor has a power of 150 kW/ 204 CV and 265 Nm of maximum torque. It accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.4 seconds and reaches a top speed of 160 km/h.

The electric drive system offers the option of driving with a single pedal. Thus, it enhances the regeneration of energy when braking and allows the driver to accelerate and slow down the vehicle using only the accelerator pedal.

It incorporates a high-density lithium-ion battery, with a capacity of 71.4 kWh , with which it offers a range of more than 450 km (WLTP).

The battery allows fast charging , reaching 80% of its capacity in 30 minutes with a 150 kW fast charging system (CCS2), with an 11 kW three-phase charger on board.

Toyota’s experience in electrification allows us to say that the bZ4X battery has, according to the brand itself: ‘ world-leading levels of quality, durability and reliability ‘.

Along these lines, Toyota assures its customers that the bZ4X battery will have 90% of its capacity after 10 years/240,000 km. Or 70% after a million kilometers.
