What Does a Mechatronics Technician Do?

The mechatronics engineer forms the interface between the areas of mechanics and electronics and is particularly active in industrial production. His tasks include, for example, the maintenance and repair of production systems, the replacement of mechanical and electrical components and the implementation of weak point analyzes in order to optimize processes.

Typical tasks

  • Operational implementation of projects in the fields of electronics and mechatronics
  • Creation of electrical plans, assembly and connection plans for customers
  • Construction and conversion of controls
  • Isolating the causes of errors and rectifying the defects
  • Construction and support of mechatronic test benches
  • Technical support from suppliers
  • maintenance and service work

Classic requirements

  • Completed training as a mechatronics technician (apprenticeship, TU/FH electrical engineering / mechatronics etc.)
  • Functional understanding of complex systems consisting of mechanics, electronics, hardware and software
  • High quality awareness
  • Experience with programming systems such as Matlab, LabView …
  • High level of independence and team spirit
  • Willingness for constant further training in the field
  • Good English knowledge
  • Possibly willingness to work in shifts
  • Possibly willingness to travel

How do I become a mechatronics engineer?

As a mechatronics engineer, you qualify either through a three-and-a-half-year dual vocational training program or through a degree. As part of a course of study, it is also possible to set certain priorities in the training. Even after completing a bachelor’s or master’s degree, knowledge acquisition can be continued through various further training courses.
