We have to be more humane leaders, with the ability to build work teams based on dialogue

In the midst of an economic environment that arouses stress and anxiety, I share a phrase from Publilio Siro that came to mind while he was talking about the challenges that lie ahead for leaders in 2023.

“Anyone can hold the helm when the sea is calm”, but only true leaders dare to navigate a sea of uncertainty and scarcity, since they have the necessary tools to stay ahead.

As leaders, we must be ready to venture out and discover new ways to lead our teams on the path to abundance. To achieve this, we need to know the possible challenges we will face.

Cost reduction will be a challenge that will allow us to strengthen strategies. We must be extra creative and fully understand the needs of the company, so that the recruitment process is not affected. We must also balance the needs of the organization and those of the collaborator. We cannot allow anxiety to weaken leadership. For this reason, a positive culture is necessary that awakens the sense of belonging and the commitment of the team.

We need to know in depth the new expectations of employees regarding their jobs, because this directly impacts the attraction and retention of talent. Some elements that can be implemented to cover these needs are flexibility and clarity in the company’s values to attract collaborators who identify with them.

Also, implement the first-person experience, where collaborators are treated first as people rather than as employees, as well as having an excellent employee experience, an element that has been used to combat the so-called Great Resignation of 2021, and that has gained strength ever since.

As leaders we must create work environments that connect with the needs of collaborators and that encourage and value personal expressions. We have to be more humane leaders, with the ability to build work teams based on dialogue. In these times it is important to promote diversity and the exchange of ideas, we need a collaborative culture because it is the basis for creating increasingly innovative teams. Are you ready to steer the helm of leadership?
