Looking for work as a nanny or babysitter can bring risks of scams or scams, such as falling victim to the fake check fraud scheme. For this reason, at Globe Live Media we explain what care you should have with your potential employers

In general, the search for a job as a nanny, babysitter or babysitter is carried out, in the United States, through specific websites that offer employment services, such as Care.com, Sittercity.com or even Craigslist.com, a portal that links people looking for work with particular individuals who want to hire someone. However, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) advises you to beware of some scams and scams that can come from these types of online sites.

According to the FTC, anyone interested in becoming a nanny or babysitter should beware of these potential scams:

1) In the event that you have been hired without doing a personal or telephone interview, you must be careful. Scammers may make excuses for not doing a proper hiring process, such as being out of town or too busy.

2) If you receive a check before you start work, it could be a classic fake check scam. This fraudulent scheme consists of hiring you receiving a check in advance to cover expenses, but then they will tell you that you must return it or send part of this money to another person. What the victim doesn’t know is that this check is fake, and when the bank finds out, the scammer already has your money, and the bank will want you to replace the money you already withdrew.

Therefore, it is in your best interest to verify the legitimacy of your potential employers before sharing any personal information with them.

In that case, you’ll want to do an online search for your employers to see if other people have had bad experiences with them, or even been victims of scams.

Also, it is advisable not to send money to your possible boss in any way, because, as we have reiterated on previous occasions, any “job” that requires you to pay to obtain it is a scam.

To report fraud in your job search as a nanny or babysitter, you can enter the web portal ReporteFraude.ftc.gov and report your case. It’s also a good idea to go to your state Attorney General’s office, telling them which website you found your fraudulent employer on.
