Because 10 entities in the country returned to the color “red” (maximum risk of contagion) in the epidemiological traffic light of COVID-19, the restaurant industry asked applications such as Rappi, Didi Food and Uber Eats to reduce their commissions from 30 to 17% until they can reopen their doors to diners.
Through a statement, the National Chamber of the Restaurant and Seasoned Food Industry (Canirac), the Mexican Restaurant Association (AMR) and the Association of Directors of Restaurant Chains (DICARES) called for greater sensitivity to the giants of the platforms of food delivery.
Entrepreneurs assured that this reduction will greatly help small and medium establishments to survive, so maintaining the same commissions that were applied before the pandemic is unsustainable for thousands of restaurants.
It is worth mentioning that before the implementation of the red traffic light, the health authorities only allow the gastronomic industry to operate with the sale “only to take away.”
The restaurant organization indicated that on January 13, it held a meeting with representatives of Rappi, Didi Food and Uber Eats, with the aim of reaching a fair negotiation for the sector, given the situation it faces derived from the health crisis.
“It should be added that Rappi has already made a proposal aligned with what the industry has requested, this sector trusts that Didi Food and Uber Eats will also do it; the representatives of said applications promised to have a timely response no later than this Friday “
They even specified that the authorities of the Government of Mexico City are aware that similar measures are being taken in other countries to regulate these services. Such is the case of Toronto and Ontario, in Canada; as well as in Washington, Los Angeles, Seattle and New York, in the United States.
