Elizabeth II cancels her traditional Sandringham Christmas

The Queen Elizabeth II has been forced to change her Christmas plans due to the advance of Covid-19 infections in the United Kingdom. Thus, the monarch has decided to suspend her usual stay in Sandringham, the Norfolk estate dwhere she usually spends the Christmas holidays, after the recent growth of infections by the Omicron variant.

This year there will be no traditional Christmas postcard of the British royal family walking on their way to church. Instead, Elizabeth II will remain at Windsor Castle in what will be her first Christmas without her husband, Prince Philip of Edinburgh, who passed away last April at the age of 99.

A source close to the British royal family has confirmed this decision to the magazine “People”, explaining that it is a personal decision taken after “much thought” and that it reflects the current “cautious approach” of the Windsors.

However, the mother of Charles of England will continue to receive visits from her closest relatives during the most important dates, as confirmed by the same source.

Another close source assured the same magazine that Elizabeth II regrets having had to make that decision but believes that it is the “correct” thing to do under the circumstances.
