According to the latest report by Ming-Chi Kuo, an analyst familiar with Apple’s supply chain information, the next-generation iPhone SE will have two major upgrades: 5G support and processor enhancements. Kuo made a similar forecast in March of this year, emphasizing credibility.
The iPhone 12 series released in the fall of 2020 was the first Apple product to support 5G. Only two weeks after its release, it became the “best-selling 5G smartphone” (not the total of all models, but the sales of each model), but once the popular price iPhone SE model becomes 5G compatible, it will be again. It is likely to have a big impact.
Kuo also reiterates that the iPhone SE (2022) has the same design (and the same screen size) as the previous model, with only the above two changes. Previously, Kuo claimed that there would be an iPhone SE Plus with a screen size of 5.5 inches to 6.1 inches and a full-screen design with Touch ID integrated into the side power button, but these days it’s not mentioned at all.
In addition, the latest report shows optimism that the next iPhone SE will “contribute to replacement demand for 5G iPhones.”
Originally, such a role should have been expected for the cheapest iPhone 12 mini in the iPhone 12 series, but in reality there were rumors that production was already discontinued due to sluggish sales.
There is a view that the current iPhone SE (2nd generation) cannibalized with the mini because it was covered with “smallness” and exceeded the “cheapness”, but the next iPhone SE will have the same or higher processing power as the mini. We would like to expect ease of use.
