LOS ANGELES, Calif. — Aerosmith will be touring for the last time to celebrate more than 50 years as rock stars.
The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee announced the dates for their “Peace Out” farewell tour on Monday, which kicks off Sept. 2 in Philadelphia.
The tour will take the band to New York for a concert on Friday January 19 at Madison Square Garden.
The 40-date tour includes a stop in the band’s hometown of Boston on New Year’s Eve. Its last scheduled date is January 26, 2024 in Montreal.
“I think it was about time,” guitarist Joe Perry said in an interview with The Associated Press.
Perry said the band, which includes vocalist Steven Tyler, bassist Tom Hamilton, drummer Joey Kramer and guitarist Brad Whitford, learned about staging and producing during their recent residency in Las Vegas.
Perry thinks it’s time to say goodbye, especially since all of the band’s founding members are over 70. Tyler, 75, is the oldest of the group.
“It’s kind of an occasion to celebrate 50 years that we’ve been here,” Perry said. “You never know how long everyone will be healthy doing this… It’s been a while since we’ve done a proper tour. We did this series of concerts in Las Vegas, which was great. It was fun, but (we’re) a little impatient to get back on the road.”
Tyler and Perry said the band hopes to delve into their extensive catalog of rock classics, which includes hits like “Crazy,” “Janie’s Got a Gun” and “Livin’ on the Edge.”
AEROSMITH’S INFLUENCE ON MUSIC
Founded in 1970, Aerosmith has won four Grammy Awards over the years. The band broke boundaries by mixing rock and hip hop with their epic collab with Run-DMC for “Walk This Way.”

“We’re going to open Pandora’s box one last time to introduce our fans to the Peace Out Tour,” Tyler said in a statement. His reference to Pandora’s Box is a pun on “Pandora’s Box”, a three-disc compilation released by Aerosmith in 1991 that includes the band’s output from the 1970s through the early 1980s.
“We see you there and be on the lookout because we are going to get all the toys out of the attic. Get ready,” Tyler added.

The band said Kramer has decided not to participate in upcoming tour dates. He is still part of the band, but the drummer has been on leave to “focus his attention on his family and his health” since his residency in Las Vegas in 2022. Drummer John Douglas will continue to perform in his place.
Perry called Kramer his brother. The band said their “legendary presence behind the drums will be missed”.
Before the 40-date tour ends, Perry said more cities could be added domestically and internationally.
“It’s the last farewell tour, but I feel like it’s going to go on for a while,” he said. “I don’t know how many times we will come back to the same cities. This may be the last time.”
