MIAMI.- Police have reported the arrest of a suspect in the Miami crash early Thursday morning that killed one person in a hit-and-run case caught on surveillance camera.
Elton Suarezmesa, 46, was arrested and charged with leaving the scene of a fatal accident, manslaughter and reckless driving, according to the Miami police arrest report.
Suarezmesa is being held at TGK prison in Miami-Dade.
In the dramatic surveillance footage, you can see the fatal crash that happened in an area of Flagler Street in Miami. In the video, you can see when a red vehicle turns left, onto Flagler Street, and collides with a motorcyclist.
The motorcycle flies, as can be seen. The driver of the red Toyota gets out of the car, looks at the biker, gets back in the vehicle, grabs something and runs away.
Miami police moved around 4:30 a.m. to Flagler Street and 47th Avenue in southwest Miami, where the incident involving the car and a motorcycle took place.
According to the preliminary scene investigation shared by police, the offending vehicle appears to have traveled north while the motorcyclist was traveling west, at which time the collision occurred.
Police reported that the driver of the offending vehicle fled on foot, leaving the car at the scene. The Miami Fire Department declared the biker dead at the scene and identified him as 50-year-old Edgar Edmundo Sarduy Suarez.
Gabriella Pierre is the owner of a beauty salon, located a few meters from the accident which captured what happened on a surveillance camera.
He says accidents happen too often in this area. “Last week there was an accident, the same with two cars,” he said.
The body remained at the scene for hours while police investigated.
