NEW YORK — Ambulances are a part of New York life. What many don’t know is that their service costs money.
The cost of a basic ambulance trip, when someone calls 9-1-1, is $900. However, that could change in the spring, as the fire department is proposing to raise that price by more than 50%, to nearly $1,350.
On the other hand, the charge per mile for the trip to the hospital or medical center would also increase from $15 to $20 per mile.
That’s why the FDNY is holding a public hearing on Friday so people can get involved.
In 2021, it was the last time a price increased, and this time it was 16%. If approved, the increase would take effect this spring.
