This news from Activision Blizzard is once again spinning daily right now, breaking news regarding Microsoft’s attempts to encourage the European Commission to agree to the acquisition.
According to Reuters and Yahoo Finance, Microsoft has now offered solutions to the EU regulator to try to push through the deal, although we don’t yet know the exact details.
According to MLex, Microsoft’s proposed EC appeal (filed last night) relates ONLY to cloud gaming services. No console-related deals to Sony are among them. Apparently, the EC has limited its concerns to cloud gaming. Sony overdid their hand there.- Florian Mueller (@FOSSpatents) March 17, 2023
Here is what a spokesperson told Reuters today:
“We delivered on our promise to bring Call of Duty to more players on more devices by securing deals to bring the game to the Nintendo console and cloud game streaming services offered by Nvidia, Boosteroid and Ubitus. “
“We are now backing that promise with binding commitments to the European Commission, who will ensure this deal benefits players in the future.”
As a result, the European Commission has pushed back its deadline for issuing a verdict on the Activision Blizzard deal, and is now preparing to “seek input from rivals and customers” ahead of a May 22 ruling.
Earlier this month, Reuters mentioned that Microsoft needed to get European Commission approval after coming up with fixes, and the outlet continues to suggest that’s the case, so it’s a big potential for rise for Xbox.
