Last night, a very special event took place for many players: the Spotlight on Capcom. The majority of users did not expect something very revealing to be announced in this special from the Japanese company, but we wanted to receive confirmation that the very morning the Resident Evil 4 Remake official demofor he had fled hours before.

Fortunately, that’s what happened. Since yesterday you can play part of the game on PlayStation consoles first chapter of the mythical adventure of Leon S. Kennedy in Spain (the part where you first arrive in town), and having completed it now I would like to share my impressions. And already I suggest that they are very positive.

More survival-horror… And less action?

Resident Evil 4 is the video game that marked a turning point in the saga. It’s excellent combination of survival horror with action it was adored by gamers who were looking for a bit of innovation in the playable formula, and oddly enough in this remake it seems that the scales lean a little more on the side of terror.

Yes, Leon still spouts out those cocky Hollywood blockbusters when he’s in trouble, but the atmosphere around him just isn’t the same. Capcom expanded and tweaked the settings to make them darker and more sinister. if it suits. If we roam the map stealthily, without using too much sprint, you can see how exploration causes more tension than in the original gameOr at least that’s how I felt.

The fights also gave me a level of unease that I hadn’t felt working on GameCube.. I remember Leon could pull off an awesome kick that knocked out villagers that came your way. In Resident Evil Remake you don’t seem to have this action. If a group of Ganados corner you in a hallway or dead end, all you can do is take hits and run or resort to the parade, the novelty that I liked the most of the whole demo.

Knife parries are a fantastic addition

Leon’s knife was already important in the original, but in this remake it is a key and essential piece to ensure your survival in clashes with enemies. Because? Well, because now you need to consider the following:

  • the only way to block enemy attacks parades with the knife
  • If a cattle grabs you, you can kill it using a execution with this gun
  • This also applies to stealth takedowns
  • Of course, each time you perform one of the two previous maneuvers the knife will deteriorate to the point that you can no longer use it

Eventually, These adjustments in the playable section seem very successful to me and I consider that they manage to generate much more tension in the player. Resident Evil 4 Remake adds an extra point of terror to the game we all know and makes it even more demanding than before.

And the graphics?

The faces of the enemies give a very bad atmosphere

Resident Evil is a saga that has always been characterized by presenting technical sections of genuine scandal. Perhaps the environments of this remake of the fourth part did not manage to impress me as much as those of Village or those of RE 2, but it is clear that visually this title is very powerful. I first tried the performance mode and I can assure you that it goes like a shot at 60 fps (although it generates a bit of noise in the textures), and then I checked that the method of resolution it also works with a very similar rate (although with some drop).

For my part I would like to emphasize the interior lighting and the faces of the enemies, which I expected to be more generic and which ended up surprising me very pleasantly. For a farmer with this face of a psychotic break to throw himself at you is very bad vibes, the truth is he is very accomplished. If I had to say anything negative it would besometimes a lot of visual contrast is formed due to poor quality textures.

And of course, I can’t forget to mention the sound, the section in which Resident Evil always knows how to shine. The music and effects are so well designed that they are practically responsible for giving you a good scare. or that you move very carefully on the map, and that it’s much more accentuated when using headphones like the PS5’s Pulse 3D (which tell you where an enemy will arrive).

Ok ok, but what about the “Spanish” voices of the enemies?

We all really like the original Resident Evil 4 dub, and although brand new lines of dialogue have been implemented in this remake, I can confirm that the essential is still there.

Los Ganados no longer shout things at you in questionable Latino Spanish, now they do it in Spanish and with very recognizable voice actors (like the one who voices Rick Grimes in The Walking Dead). So what do I mean by that of the same essence? Well, what? you will continue to hear such mythical phrases as “Behind you, fool”. And they are just as repetitive!

conclusion

Resident Evil 4 Remake demo it gets pretty short and this practically does not allow us to delve into many of the main novelties included in the game. However the overall feel it leaves behind is very good and suggests that Capcom has done a magnificent job when it comes to giving its timeless classic a twist.

There’s a lot of desire to give Salazar and company a hard time when the game hits stores on March 24.
