Orlando Florida. – The family of Daniel Knight, the man who was killed by Winter Park police at a wedding reception on Feb. 19, 2022, will sue the department.
At a press conference, family members said they would take legal action over alleged false claims by local authorities. In addition, they said that one of the police officers hit the victim’s sister.
Winter Park Police Department Responds
The Winter Park Police Department limited itself to calling the event “tragic” for Knight’s death after the lawsuit was announced.
“This was a tragic event which resulted in loss of life and we continue to sympathize with everyone involved and impacted. Because this remains an active investigation and litigation is imminent, we are unable to comment further. “, we read in the press release.
Daniel Knight died after receiving electric shocks and gunshots
Daniel Knight was tasered by a Winter Park police officer and shot several times by another officer when they intervened with the victim at his niece’s wedding reception.
The 39-year-old had been intervened by police after guests called the 9-1-1 emergency system because he allegedly acted violently with some guests, the police report at the time said.
When he arrived, the officers intervened with him. Supposedly, the man tried to fight people and grab them by the neck and throw them to the ground because, presumably, he was under the influence of alcohol.
Police camera footage shows an officer using his taser after Knight knocked out his partner. He was later shot dead by officers.
