An 85-year-old Florida woman was killed in an alligator attack while walking her dog on Monday.
The deadly encounter happened shortly after noon in Spanish Lakes Fairways, a 55-plus community near Fort Pierce in St. Lucie County.
Residents told WPTV the woman was walking her dog when an alligator grabbed it. He tried to pull the dog away from the alligator and he died.
Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission officials said the woman who died was 85 years old. His name has not been disclosed.
St. Lucie County Sheriff Ken Mascara said the alligator was about 11 feet long.
An alligator hunter was called to the scene and was able to catch him and remove him from the neighborhood.
