MAPA brought together more than 15,000 visitors

Due to its impact, it seems the first, but it is the 5th edition of the Map of the showwhich has trod the national and international scene, sowing its seed in the fair circuit, often limited by certain norms, imposing its mark, its innovative form of representation and its inclusive, federal and Latin American character.

Under the motto: “The exchange arrives on the map”, the presence of 50 national and international galleries, more than 200 exhibited artists and more than 650 works, the fair, located in Pavilion 8 of La Rural, presented conferences , events, guided tours and performances to appreciate and discover contemporary art.

More than 15,000 visitors passed through the fair and works were sold for values ranging from 100 to 25,000 USD. In addition, it had the support of public programs and was the first of its kind to launch an exclusive application in which visitors could have all the information at their fingertips. It was a unique opportunity for anyone to attend an art fair and not feel left out for not understanding the implicit code that is often manipulated in these areas.

“Mapa is a regional and federal fair and in this edition we have professionalized it, made it grow, added elements and strengthened it. It’s the most international show we’ve done,” he said. Agustin Montes de Ocadirector of the fair, in dialogue with GlobeLiveMedia Culture.

Mapa also joins the circuit of national fairs that decentralize the current artistic scene and promote the circulation of new spaces, new artists, new management models and, therefore, new audiences attracted to the proposal. The fair is proposed as a meeting place, and it first welcomes those who are not part of the art circuit, with an entry of accessible value and works on sale at various prices, which encourage to start a collection “.

The exhibit was noted for its federal reach. Of the 41 participating national galleries, 22 were from the city of Buenos Aires, 11 from Córdoba, 5 from the province of Buenos Aires and 3 from Santa Fe. In addition, there was an emphatic presence of Latin American projects from Peru, of Chile, Mexico and Uruguay, cured by Mercedes Lopez Moreyrain category Planisphere, characterized by the presentation of hybrid management models. This means that these are galleries whose orientation is not only commercial, but which each have, in their own way, satellite projects of innovative research, residencies and cultural management. “

I think it’s a symptom that we detect in Latin America and that we have to reinvent this commercial issue, find new, more inclusive logics and generate intersections with research, with the academic, with the social. I believe that galleries don’t have the same strategies or the same logic to apply today. So it’s also thinking about how to survive in relation to the local economy,” said López Moreyra, in dialogue with GlobeLiveMedia Culture.

In this sense, each experience is different from the other and this enriches and allows the exchange of models, as an opportunity to rethink the system and the art market as a whole. “We made two stands inside the fair. Thursday and Friday we present “The nature of the future”, and Saturday and Sunday “Urbano Salvaje”. We mainly present artists from Cordoba to promote the work of artists from the interior of the country,” he said. Georgina Valdez Cristofanidirector of The White Lodge (Córdoba).

For its part, Diego Beyrou, from Casa Equis (Mexico), said: “We want to be a breeding ground for artists and collectors. We primarily work with early and mid-career artists, and an audience that wants to start collecting. It’s a bit of bringing art closer to more and more people, we don’t work exclusively, and we have works at affordable prices for everyone”.

The works were sold for values between 100 USD and 25,000 USD.

From Paiján (Trujillo – Peru), they said: “We are not a traditional gallery but a project space. Trujillo is the third city in Peru and has a broad pre-Hispanic background, so the artists work with these elements to connect them with elements of modernity”. Diana Saravia (Montevideo) also joined the exhibition proposal: “Uruguay has a brilliant selection of artists. We wanted to bring a disruptive proposal to build a bridge between Argentina and Uruguay, from José Gamarra, to Juan Perazzo or Judith Britez”. AND Martin Lopez, co-curator of Galería Oma (Chile), says: “We work with emerging, new and established artists. Our model is hybrid and mixed, with the presence of private financing and patrons who provide us with liquidity for specific projects”.

In this sense, the fair also had the presence and support of those spaces already established in the contemporary scene. “I believe that the Mapa fair is a fair that is growing a lot with a very important projection of stability which means that the more established galleries that go to other types of international fairs decide to bet, to participate and to be part of this commitment. . I think it is very healthy that there is a fair like Mapa in Buenos Aires that offers a differentiated profile with an emerging and regional orientation,” he said. Gachi Prietoin dialogue with this medium.
