Video: This is how the gang of scammers who sold the entrance to the SIRA import system fell

The Federal Police’s Anti-Fraud Division, which is part of the Superintendence of Federal Investigations, arrested two suspects on Wednesday after they were filmed and recorded as received $2,000 as a gift to approve the Sira (Argentina Republic Import System) and thus be able to carry out operations.

The task was simple. The suspects, identified as M30 years old, domiciled in Glew, registered in the AFIP transport and removals category, and B, also 30 years old, from Adrogué, in the registers registered in the category of food and beverages, offered his approval in the import process which was put in place last October. The company was supposed to facilitate it; however, none of this happened. It was a big scam.

So, in an operation controlled by agents from the Anti-Fraud Division, they summoned them both to a bar at 400 Corrientes Avenue, in the heart of downtown Buenos Aires. The procedure had been ordered by the federal judge Julien ErcoliniHead of Federal Court No. 10.

The suspects ironically went by train to collect the scam.

The PFA Detectives they filmed the sequence in secret, until the victim gives them the money in an envelope. After completing the transaction, the two suspects left the bar. At that time, federal investigators intercepted and detained them.

There they counted the money they had received: $2,275 which was seized along with a cell phone and important documents for the investigation. The two suspects were taken to the dungeon and placed at the disposal of Judge Ercolini.

The case arose out of a complaint filed by the Ministry of Economyby Commercial secretary. The suspicion was it an organization sold facilitating the completion of the procedure to obtain SIRA approval.

The SIRA was set up last October. The new system for making imports attracts many traders, because once approved, the currency is available at official prices for purchases abroad.

The logic of the system is based on the creation of a “single foreign trade account” at the Central Bank, a traceability system, with a certain date of accreditation of dollars to importers, the creation of “risk profiles” and a control dashboard the government has tried to clutter the import administration with.

At the end of the operation, the Legal and Administrative Secretary of the Ministry of the Economy, Eduardo Casalspoke at a press conference and said, “In a few days, we accomplished the task and we were able to bring to light that there is no type of paper smuggler that they can profit from the money of the businessmen”.

Also Carlos Castagneto, head of the Federal Public Revenue Administration (AFIP), shared his word in reference to the criminal act discovered by the authorities. “On behalf of AFIP, we are not going to allow these criminals to take advantage of the serious and responsible systems that the organization has, such as SIRA,” he remarked.
