An organization independent of the United States government will investigate South Norforlkthe rail operator who operated the train that derailed in Ohio, causing a chemical accident end of February.

There national transport office (NTSB) of the United States announced on Tuesday that will open a “special investigation” against the rail operator and the “safety culture”, as reported in a press release.

The organization mentions that since December 2021opened five similar processes to investigate accidents involving the railroad, including the latter derailment in ohio.

“Given the importance and the number of recent accidents of South Norfolk, the NTSB is also urging the company to take immediate action to review and assess your security practices“, indicates the press release.

The train operated by Norfolkof about fifty wagons, transported toxic material in eleven of them and derailed on February 3 while crossing Eastern Palestinea city less than 5,000 inhabitants sixty kilometers from the industrial city of Pittsburgh and near the Ohio border with Pennsylvania.

An initial board investigation into the accident revealed that the overheated of a part that serves to reduce the friction between the wheel and the axle, could have been the main cause of the accident.

Even if Eastern Palestine is small and located in a fairly sparsely populated area, the issue is used by Republicans to criticize the federal government for the consequences of what happened, despite the fact that the Presidential Administration Joe Biden insist that there is no danger in the area.

The former president himself donald trump used the incident for campaigning and traveled to the affected area himself spill of toxic products.

Last Thursday, the Secretary of Transport, Pete Buttigiegwho visited the area, amid growing criticism of the federal response to the derailment.

Faced with these criticisms, the American government announced last Friday that it was going to deploy a team of doctors and toxicologists perform public health testing in the affected area.

Since the fires were extinguished on February 8, air monitoring in the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) detected no level of community health concern attributable to train derailment.

Neither does water, because the EPA helps state and local agencies test surface and ground water to make sure drinking water is safe.

On February 26, the environmental authorities of the United States ordered to temporarily halt the shipment of contaminated waste from the derailment site.

The Region 5 administrator, Debra ShoreSince Environmental Protection Agencyordered the company South Norfolk “pause” shipments from the crash site, but promised that material removal will resume “very soon”.

The EPA will ensure that all waste is disposed of safely and legally at certified facilities to prevent further releases of hazardous substances and impacts to communities.Shore added.
