A shooting at a university in Michigan (United States) on Monday evening left at least three people dead and five injured, according to local authorities.

The alleged suspect was off campus and died of a “self-inflicted gunshot wound”, Michigan State University Police Sheriff Chris Rozman said. during a press conference.

“What we went through tonight was really a nightmare,” the agent told local media.

The alleged suspect has not been identified and was reported dead about four hours after two gunshots were reported in the college area of ​​East Lansing, Michigan.

“There are at least five victims, all of whom have been transported to a local hospital and several of them have life-threatening injuries,” Rozman reported.

The authorities have not yet revealed the names of the victims, “out of respect for the families”, underlined the sheriff in charge.

Hours before the assailant’s whereabouts were known, police released an image captured by university security cameras where the attack suspect is seen wearing a red cap and black mask .

State Governor Gretchen Whitmer said she was alerted to the situation.

“Police and first responders are already in the area,” the policy wrote on his Twitter account.

The university is one of the largest in the country, with over 50,000 students.
