The Ukrainian government has warned that the world will “drown in chaos” whether borders can be changed by force, urging the International community to support a Ukraine deter Russia and “other aggressors” to attack other nations.

This was stated by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Dimitro Kulebain his speech to the United Nations General Assembly this Wednesday, emphasizing that with the support of the world, your country can restore its territorial integrity on the first anniversary of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

“Unexpectedly, we were able to stop the much stronger aggressor and drive him out of half of the newly occupied territory,” he said, warning that “No one should be fooled by Russia’s empty negotiation calls.”

According to Kuleba, Ukraine exercises its “legitimate right” self-defence, enshrined in the UN Charter, and Russia only wants “war, not peace”.

“I know that some still think or even say: ‘We want to be friends with both Ukraine and Russia’… However, in this war there are not two sides: there is an aggressor and a victim“, reiterated the head of Ukrainian diplomacy during his speech.

For this reason, he urged UN member states to align themselves with the Charter of Nations, international law and the organisation’s General Assembly resolutions, stressing that “never in recent history has the border between good and evil has never been so clear”.

In this regard, he argued that Ukrainian troops “do not stand in no man’s land” and condemned calls for Ukraine to cease fire and hand over arms. “They are very out of place,” Kuleba refuted these proposals, saying that it is illegal and contrary to the Charter of the United Nations to help the “aggressor”.

Ukraine’s Foreign Minister called on UN member countries to support a draft resolution entitled “Principles of the Charter of the United Nations emphasizing a comprehensive, just and lasting peace in Ukraine”.

“I appeal to you: this is a decisive moment to show your support, your unity and your solidarity. This is the time to show that they defend the Charter”, condemned Kuleba.

Belarus presented amendments to the draft resolution proposed by Ukraine – which, if approved, has only symbolic value -, assuring that it intended to rectify “certain inaccuracies”.

According to the representative of Belarus, an ally of Moscow in the invasion of Ukraine, in the United Nations General Assembly, to say that Russia carried out a full-scale invasion of Ukraine “is not in conformity to reality”.

“If the Russian Federation had not just carried out a special military operation and carried out a “full-fledged invasion” using its full military potential, there would be no country capable of existing for a few hours or minutes later,” said the Belarusian. representative maintained during his speech.

Meanwhile, he pointed out that “the only way to end the conflict” is to start negotiations, emphasizing that the purpose of his amendment is “to include elements for a peaceful settlement”.

In the meantime, he pointed out that “thanks to the efforts of Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko in February and March 2022, several rounds of negotiations were organized between Kiev and Moscow”, efforts which would have been broken by the supply of Western weapons to the ‘Ukraine.

Therefore, he stressed that voting in favor of the amendments would be seen as “a proof of a real interest in achieving a lasting peace in Ukraine”.
