London, March 8. British Foreign Secretary James Cleverly will present this Wednesday in Sierra Leone, the land of his ancestors, a new international strategy to tackle gender inequality around the world and fund projects that empower women.
Cleverly will give details of the scheme during a visit to a hospital in the town of Bo, where his mother is from, where he will see firsthand the impact of British investment, a statement released by the Ministry of Health said. Foreign Affairs.
The new Strategy for Women and Girls, announced on Women’s Day, will be implemented across the entire network of embassies in the UK, which will manage funds for specific projects, the note said.
Through this plan, the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office commits that at least 80% of its bilateral aid programs “will target gender equality as a political objective by 2030”, indicates the press release.
The UK government will allocate up to £200 million (around €225 million) to the UK’s WISH program for integrated women’s sexual health, focusing on sub-Saharan Africa.
In addition, a 38 million pound (43 million euro) game will support organizations that defend women’s rights, in collaboration with the Canadian Fund for Equality.
“Advancing gender equality and fighting discrimination is obviously the right thing to do, but it also brings freedom, boosts prosperity and trade, and strengthens security,” said Cleverly, who sees it as ” a fundamental element of healthy democracies”.
The minister says it is important “to intensify the work against inequalities” because the achievements are “increasingly threatened” in countries such as Iran or Afghanistan. EFE
