ANKARA, Turkey (AP) — A 5.6 magnitude earthquake hit southern Turkey on Monday, causing some buildings to collapse, an official said, three weeks after a catastrophic earthquake devastated the region . No deaths have been reported.

Monday’s quake was centered in the town of Yesilyurt in Malatya province, AFAD, the country’s emergency management agency, said.

Yesilyurt Mayor Mehmet Cinar told HaberTurk TV that some buildings in the city have collapsed.

Malatya was one of 11 Turkish provinces hard hit by the 7.8 magnitude earthquake that devastated parts of southern Turkey and northern Syria on February 6. This earthquake caused more than 48,000 deaths in total in the two countries and caused the collapse or serious damage of 173,000 buildings on Turkish territory.

AFAD noted that nearly 10,000 aftershocks have rocked the quake-hit region since February 6.
