The Soufriere volcano in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines erupted and started throwing plumes of smoke, ash and steam, as reported this Friday by the local National Emergency Management Organization (NEMO).

The ashes have arrived, according to NEMO, as far as Argyle International Airport, located 19 kilometers from the volcano.

Saint Vincent and the Grenadines has had no significant volcanic activity since 1979.
