Workers from different delivery applications carried out this Monday afternoon a Total shutdown of the Buenos Aires-La Plata highway asking for greater security measures after the crime of Danilo Mercieri (20 years old), who was murdered on Saturday afternoon by criminals who stole his motorcycle in the Buenos Aires town of Bernal, Quilmes district.
The cut was made, after 3:00 p.m. on Monday, at kilometer 16 of the highway and caused serious traffic delays on both sides. The cars, noticing that the three lanes were blocked by motorcycles, drove on the shoulder.
The demonstration began this morning, in front of the departmental prefecture of Quilmes, then continued in the Triangle of Bernal and, finally, settled on the highway.
“We are here for Danilo because the police, instead of protecting you, come to take money from us. We don’t feel safe. You live in fear that they will take your motorcycle and cut your job. Where they should be, they are not. There are areas where you can’t take orders because it’s no man’s land”, said one of the bikers who participated in the cut. “We want Mayra (Mendoza, the mayor of Quilmes) to come and explain why the police are only in the center and not in the most uninhabited areas”, he demanded in dialogue with TN.

While another of his colleagues said that this claim is not new, but has been going on for three years. “We met with the provincial security secretary and he just patted us on the back. We talked in the middle of a pandemic, that we were afraid that a colleague would be killed. That’s it, now they’ve killed a 20-year-old partner. The situation has gotten worse,” he said.
Furthermore, he complained that motorcycles removed by police at roadside checks “are for minor infractions, as none have a warrant for their arrest”. And he added: “We made them a map of the most criminal areas and we even put GPS on the motorbikes to recover them when they are stolen. When the police pick them up, no one goes to jail.”
Everyone present at the event they want the mayor of Quilmes to personally apologize to the family and not via social networks, as he did this Sunday.
