PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. (AP) — Adam Svensson sent a shot into the hospitality tent and birdied it on Saturday for a two-shot lead in the Players Championship. Rory McIlroy stepped into a hole he couldn’t escape and missed the cut for the first time since August.

Golfers finally completed the second round after a storm on Friday forced the round to a halt with half the course to go.

Svensson’s worst shot ended in a birdie after he took a drop off the tent and tapped for a birdie on the par-5 9th hole, putting him up to a 67, two point lead over Masters champion Scottie Scheffler.

Scheffler took his time, and with good reason. He played his part alongside McIlroy only after world number one Jon Rahm retired with a stomach bug on Friday.

The wait was long and Scheffler did what was necessary. He birdied a pair of two-putters on par-5s at TPC Sawgrass, making sure to find his way onto the island on the 17th hole to finish with 69.

Now that Rahm and McIlroy are out, Scheffler is back to number one in the world. You must finish tied for group 5 or better.

Svensson, who won his first PGA Tour title at last year’s event at Sea Island, leads after 36 holes at 9-under 135.
