There Citizen Protection Security Secretariat (SSPC) reported arresting a man accused of killing his girlfriend with a butcher knife on February 21.

According to surveys by the CPSSthe night of February 21, Alexis Arthur “N”also known as The butcherwas in a house in the neighborhood Santa Cruz Venta de Carpio in the municipality of EcatepecState of Mexico, with his girlfriend identified as Eileen Alexander “N”.

According to what has been reported by the authorities, a problem of jealousy between the couple has triggered a drama for the young woman whose age has not been revealed. The subject reportedly fled, so the competent authorities opened the corresponding investigations until finally, on February 25, elements of the Femicide Attorney General of the State of Mexico (FGJEM), in coordination with the Secretariat for Citizen Security and Protection (SSPC), through the Intentional Homicide Crime Commission (CONAHO), detained the subject at the town hall of Xochimilcosoutheast of the Mexico City.

Alexis Arturo was transferred to the “Sergio García Ramírez” Preventive and Social Rehabilitation Center in Ecatepec, pending his legal trial which will determine his responsibility for Aylin’s murder.

According to official data, in January at least 72 investigation files for the crime of femicide were registered throughout the Republic, while in the State of Mexico seven were opened.

The State of Mexico was the federal entity with the most femicides in 2022, according to data from the Executive Secretariat of the National Public Security System (SESNP).

In its report on violence against women, the agency indicated that the Mexican entity has accumulated 138 alleged crimes, but 140 alleged victims, including 115 women over 18, 10 minors between zero and 17, while the rest was undetermined.

Meanwhile, 16 Mexican municipalities concentrated 42.03% of the suspected femicides accumulated nationally, or some 80 cases. Ecatepec and Valle de Chalco recorded 10 and 12 femicides respectively, while Tlalnepantla recorded 8 cases. Naucalpan and Toluca accumulated 6 suspected femicides each, and Nicolas Romero 5. Chicoloapan, Huehuetoca, La Paz, Lerma, Nezahualcóyotl and Tecámac recorded 4 each.

The municipalities of Atizapán de Zaragoza, Chimalhuacán, El Oro and Tultitlán with three suspected feminicides are added to the list.
