This measure limits the sale of high-capacity ammunition magazines, prohibits switches that allow semi-automatic firearms to fire automatically, and “expands the courts’ ability to prevent dangerous persons from possessing a firearm by means of restraining orders”.

The plaintiffs argued that the ban violates the Illinois Constitution and they asked for an exception in the legislation where they are allowed to buy this type of weapon.

“This legislation has used criteria to choose who can and who cannot own guns without consideration,” said the judge who suspended the law, Joshua Morrison.

“Furthermore, because of the speed with which this bill was passed, the effect on protected classes could not be considered, nor could the legislator consider whether it it was the least restrictive way to achieve his goal,” he added, according to the channel.
