The Tigers equalized Orlando City SC, but qualified for the quarter-finals

For the Round of 16 of CONCACAF 3 – CONCACAF Champions League 2023, Orlando City and the Felinos finished tied at Exploria Stadium.

With a goal from Sebastián Córdova they started to win the visit midway through the first half, however, 89 minutes into the second half, Ercan Kara equalized the game for the hosts.

A superb play from Orlando City, after 44 minutes in the second half, was the one to move the score through Ercan Kara. It’s a superb goal in the left corner that the striker scored with a superb shot from the big box, after a personal movement on the left.

The best man of the match was Pedro Gallese. The Orlando City SC keeper excelled saving 8 shots and making 15 correct passes.

Nicolás Ibáñez also stood out at the Exploria stadium. The Tigers striker shot 8 times in the opposite goal and made 8 correct passes.

The constant interruptions made a stalled game, which was marred by fouls. The warnings were numerous: Mauricio Pereyra, Rodrigo Schlegel, César Araujo, Samir Caetano, Fernando Gorriarán, Rafael Carioca. Samir Caetano was sent off for a double yellow card (50′, 2T) and Óscar Pareja for a direct red card (51′, 2T).

Orlando City manager Óscar Pareja offered a 4-5-1 formation with Pedro Gallese in goal; Michael Halliday, Rodrigo Schlegel, Robin Jansson and Luca Petrasso on the defensive line; Facundo Torres, Mauricio Pereyra, César Araujo, Martín Ojeda and Iván Angulo in the middle; and Ramiro Enrique in attack.

For their part, Marco Ruiz’s team entered the field with a 4-5-1 pattern with Nahuel Guzmán under the three sticks; Javier Aquino, Igor Lichnovsky, Samir Caetano and Jesús Alberto Angulo in defence; Fernando Gorriarán, Rafael Carioca, Guido Pizarro, Sebastián Córdova and Luis Quiñones in midfield; and Nicolás Ibáñez in front.

Héctor Martínez Sorto was the referee who officiated the match at the Exploria Stadium.

Despite the draw with Orlando City, the Felinos will play in the quarter-finals of the CONCACAF – CONCACAF Champions League 2023.
