Rome, 17 Feb. Journalists and workers of the Gedi publishing group, one of the largest in Italy, controlled by the Agnelli family, went on strike today, leaving some of the country’s main newspapers in silence, such as ” La Repubblica” or “La Stampa”. .
The workers denounce the sale of the group which, in addition to the aforementioned historical newspapers, owns magazines such as “National Geographic” as well as radio stations and advertising and communication agencies.
“The one that was the largest Italian publishing group and that from morning to night has sold important newspapers such as ‘La Nuova Sardegna’, ‘Il Tirreno’, ‘Le Gazzette’, ‘La Nuova Ferrara’, ‘L’Espresso’ and closed ‘Micromega’, reopen to the market”, they regret in a press release.
With this protest, the digital portals of the Grupo Gedi newspapers are not updated today with news, nor have they reached the Italian newsstands.
“Journalists and reporters are on strike to protest the group’s media ‘marketing’,” they say.
The Gedi group, which is part of Exor, the holding company of the Agnelli family, has an average of 5.5 million users, making it one of the largest Italian and European publishing groups.
Its employees denounce that its CEO, Maurizio Scavanino, has confirmed contacts to sell some local and historical newspapers of the group, such as “La Nuova Venezia” or “Il Corriere delle Alpi”, and they fear that he will do so later with major newspapers. EFE
