Moldova resisted Russia’s attempts to make it a puppet country and it is much stronger today than when the Russian invasion of Ukraine began a year ago, the Moldovan president said in Bucharest, Maia Sandu.

“Some wanted the fall of our country, that a puppet government could be established in Chisinau, serving the interests of the Kremlin,” said the president after meeting her Romanian counterpart. Klaus Iohannisdepending on the agency Agrepres.

The Head of State added that at the beginning of the war, Moldova was Ukraine’s most vulnerable neighbor, but now “the country is stronger” and has new sources of energy, with which contests the “energy blackmail of the Kremlin”.

The Moldovan president thanked Romania for its support, such as the gas supply via the Iasi-Chisinau gas pipeline, thanks to which the country was able to stop depending “only on Gazprom”, the Russian gas company.

Iohannis, for his part, agreed with his counterpart in assuring that “foreign threats that endanger Moldova are particularly worrying”.

The Romanian President assured that Moldova could count on the support of his country and reiterated that the European Union (EU) should sanction those who want to destabilize it.

In fact, this week, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Moldova, Niku Popescuasked Brussels to impose sanctions on the Moldovan oligarchs accused of supporting Russia in the destabilization of their country.

Moldova, a former Soviet republic, is negotiating entry into the EU, but, as Sandu recently assured, it is not even considering applying for NATO membership yet.

For its part, the Moldovan government has denied that Ukraine is planning an armed provocation in the pro-Russian separatist region of Transnistria, following the Russian Defense Ministry’s warning that Kiev is planning a false flag attack.

State authorities do not confirm the information released today by the Russian Ministry of Defense“, announced the executive on his Telegram channel.

Chisinau called on the population to calm down and seek information “in official and verified sources of the Republic of Moldova”.

“Our institutions cooperate with their foreign partners and, in the event of a threat to the country, society will be informed immediately,” the Moldovan government added.

The Russian Ministry of Defense denounced that kyiv is preparing an armed provocation in Transnistria, where a contingent of Russian blue helmets resides, and stressed that it is preparing to react to any situation.

The Russian command stressed that Ukraine “will use as an excuse for the invasion the staging of an alleged offensive by Russian forces from Transnistria” with Ukrainian servicemen dressed in Russian uniforms. According to the military entity, kyiv will involve members of the ultranationalist Azov battalion in this provocation.

Moldova walked out of the Kremlin junction after Putin heightened tension in Europe by revoking the decree that respected Moldova’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The decree, which included a Moldovan component, outlined Russia’s foreign policy 11 years ago, which assumed closer relations for Moscow with the European Union (EU) and the United States.

The order revoking the 2012 document was posted on the Kremlin’s website and says the decision has been made to “guarantee the national interests of Russia in relation to the profound changes taking place in international relations”.

Russian peacekeepers have been in Transnistria since 1992, following the ceasefire agreement between the self-declared republic and Moldova.

After the start of the Russian military campaign in Ukraine, the situation in Transnistria was extremely calm, despite several isolated cases of sabotage against the institutions of the separatist authorities.
