Opposition parties allege Plan B will continue as approved in December (CUARTOSCURO)

The coordinator of the senators of the National Action Party (PAN), Julen Rementeria del Puertoin the company of members of the opposition parties, denounced the Morena lawmakers of delay discussion of secondary reform better known as Election Plan B in the Union Congressional Committees. This is to take advantage so that the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation (SCJN) does not “review in depth” the recent challenges aimed at overturning the rules.

It was during the press conference in the Senate of the Republic, that the blue and white expressed its anger against the “whims” of the cherry party for not having presented to the vote the last resolutions of the reform initiative promoted by the Federal President, Andrés Manuel López Ouvrier (AMLO)

And it is that according to the members of the opposition, the behavior of Morena, sheltered by his majority, “seized power” from the discussions in the two Chambers so that the deliberation of the initiative does not become effective, what should have been done on 1February 5a date that has been pushed back since the first week of the month.

But postponing the vote on Plan B would not only affect the Supreme Court’s review of the challenges, but also, according to Julen Rementería, it would also affect the new march —summoned by the opposition— in defense of the National Electoral Institute (INE) on 26 February.

“There is a matter that is on the agenda (Plan B), which mysteriously or cleverly (…) they kicked, they distanced themselves over time with two clear intentions; the one that has to do with discouraging citizen participation in an upcoming tour to be held in Mexico City (and the second intention) to tell the Court, the courts (which will not be able to undo the reforms) that the Plan has B”, underlined the member of the PAN in front of the media.

On the other hand, some Morena members pointed out that it is not true that the delay in discussing Plan B is being blamed for alleged benefits. He was the coordinator of the Morenista senators, Ricardo Monreal Avilawho asked his party’s lawmakers to hold the vote as soon as possible.

After the president of the Senate Governance Committee, Mónica Fernández Balboa, did not call a legislative meeting for discussion, the candidate, also aspiring to the presidency, indicated that he would wait for the decision of the board of directors to proceed with the vote on February 15, discussion this it did not materialize.

“She proposed to us that this week she was going to meet. It’s Tuesday, let’s expect him to do it now. It didn’t happen, but if not, the board can do it or the other chairman on the board. (Rafael) Espino can call up now, he has no problem,” Ricardo Monreal said before questions.

It should be noted that since the validation of Electoral Plan B last December, the opposition parties have argued that the Union Congress -led by Morena and allies- approved the reform promoted by the Chief Executive Federal without making the relevant revisions.

This reason would have motivated the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI), the Party of the Democratic Revolution (PRD), National Action and the electorate itself to take legal action before the highest court of justice to challenge two of the six approved standards. So far, the agency has reviewed the six complaints filed; however, regarding the discussion of plan B in the Senate, it is planned to change only one of the clauses presented without modifying those already approved.
