The Provincial Municipality of Arequipa, under Mayor Víctor Hugo Rivera, hired three strippers on Wednesday to perform for officials on International Women’s Day.
The event took place in the bedroom and was recorded by councilor Mayra Sumari, who asked where the funds for this activity came from. The Office of the Ombudsman also joined in the criticism, which expressed its “total rejection of the way” the day was commemorated.
“I was invited to a treat for municipal employees. The protocol event ended with the mayor’s speech, which was the last closing number of the protocol act, then three people entered: an artist, one dressed as a policeman and another as an Apache. They started dancing and it was uncomfortable,” Sumari told RPP.
He also called for the formation of a commission of inquiry, especially after Mayor Víctor Hugo Rivera blamed the sub-directorate of human resources for the celebration. Due to this situation, Councilor Rocío Mango requested the departure of Virginia Bustos, who chairs this office and who granted ten days to submit reports.
The mayor assured the newspaper The village that he was unaware of the inclusion of the dancers and pointed out that he also left the room when the disguised men appeared.
Last year, for Mother’s Day, José Supo Condori, mayor of Paucarpata, in the same region, organized a striptease show as part of a party organized by the said municipality.
The councilor of the municipality, Hilarión Cavero Astete, described the event as “inexplicable excess”, since he felt that a celebration for Mother’s Day deserved “more formal or more solemn” entertainment.
