On Wednesday afternoon, the municipal president of cuernavaca, Jose Luis Uriostegui Salgadoannounced that he will ask President Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO) to cancel the million dollar debt that the Cuernavaca drinking water and sewage system (SAPAC) has with the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE).

Well, on February 15, the Commission suspended the supply of electricity to SAPAC due to the agency’s inability to cover a payment of 9 million 57 thousand 116 pesos corresponding to the months of December 2022 and January 2023, in two amounts agreed on 31 January.

The town hall made one out of 3 million while on February 10 it made the rest (6.05 million). But this second was not completed and only 2 million were paid, as reported by the CFE to by a statementso the supply was cut off.

Following the power outage in several wells, the municipality’s water supply was affected, triggering a series of protests and blockades on highways and avenues subject to the city council paying the debt.

Under this aspect, the municipal president announced the measure together with the director of the drinking water system, Evelia Flores Hernandezso that they can continue to provide the service in the municipality.

“I must also tell you that the director general of SAPAC and yours truly have just signed a request to ask the president of the republic to cancel this debt which will prevent Zapata from being able to modernize and lend for many years if it does not is not cancelled.” the service people need.

Along with this request, they requested that CFE’s tariffs be adjusted so that SAPAC can pursue its obligations and that they are fair. But he assured that they did not want the Commission to give them anything, but rather that they charge their tariffs just enough so that the Potable Water Network can continue its activities.

However, the news was not well received by the residents of Morelos who live in the municipality, as they assured that it was being irresponsible with agreements made with the parapublic to end the debt. For its part, the CFE indicated that apart from the debt of December and January, there is another additional sum for the month of January of 7.19 million pesos.

Because the agreed second payment was not complete, the total figure is 11.24 million. To the above they added that there is an invoicing for the month of February 2023 in the amount of 5.9 million pesos with a due date of Saturday February 25. These expenses correspond to the current administration of the organization, since the municipality has a historical debt of 287 million 986 thousand 151.67 pesos.

Faced with this problem, the Governor Cuauhtemoc Blanco informed via his Twitter account that the resources of the Regional Municipal Infrastructure Fund allocated to non-priority works of the municipalities of Yautepec, Yecapixtla and Cuernavaca to take care of the payment of the debt.

It should be noted that the organization Mexicans against corruption and impunity (MCCI), revealed by a survey that Blanco Bravo, when he was the chief of Cuernavaca, did not pay SAPAC electricity costs in 2017 and 2018 for having allocated resources to award contracts to irregular companies, which led the CFE to make budget cuts that affected the population.

On research, MCCI He assured that the most critical year was 2018 with the payment of electricity. In total, they were paid 23 million pesos out of the 88 planned. This is how the CFE proceeded 16 final cuts of light at SAPAC.
