The European Parliament has confirmed that the EU will accompany Ukraine throughout the process of joining the bloc. (Reuters)

There president of the european parliament, Roberta Metsolawho is going to kyiv again, underlined that “the future of Ukraine is as a member of the European Union” and that this body will accompany the country throughout this process.

“The future of Ukraine is as a member of the European Union. We will walk with you to the end,” Metsola said through his official profile on the social network Twitter.

Metsola accompanied her message with a photo in which she appears merged in a hug with the speaker of the Rada (Parliament) of Ukraine, Ruslan Stefanchuk. “It’s great to see my friend again,” he noted.

Cooperation between the European Parliament and the Ukrainian Parliament will only be strengthened“, assured the conservative politician.

Also Stefanchuk posted photos of the meeting with Metsola in his profile on the same social network, and assured that they had “discussed Ukraine’s path in the EU and steps to accelerate our integration”.

Stefanchuk expressed his gratitude to Metsola for the resolution adopted on February 24 during the United Nations General Assembly which reaffirms the need for a immediate withdrawal of all Russian military forces from Ukrainian territory and the immediate cessation of attacks on critical infrastructure in that country, as well as the need to achieve a general, just and lasting peace as soon as possible.

The president of the Eurochamber paid special attention, according to the Chairman of the Rada, to the peace plan of ten points from the Ukrainian President, Volodimir Zelensky, and called “to support this initiative” to put an end to the military invasion of Russia.

Metsola surprisingly announced his return to Kyiv.

I’m glad to be back in Ukraine“, he wrote on his Twitter, along with a photograph of himself.

The Maltese politician said she returned to Ukraine “with these brave men who inspired the world. With these heroes who refuse to give up. With those who have sacrificed everything for our values. With Europeans whose home is in our European Union”.

“Happy to be back in Ukraine,” Metsola wrote on his Twitter.

Community sources told the news agency EFE that, for security reasons, the details of your trip cannot be advanced in advance.

Metsola became on April 1, 2022 the first head of a European institution to visit Ukraine since the start of Russia’s war of aggression against that country on February 24 of that year. In the meantime, he capped off his visit with a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelensky.

Since then, there have been successive trips by the highest representatives of the institutions of the European Union.

The most important of them was the past February 2when the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyenand 15 of its Commissioners attended Kyiv to hold a meeting with Zelensky and a large part of the Ukrainian government.

The message they then brought to Ukraine was that propose to Ukraine to continue its integration into the EU as it progresses towards membership.

They also promised more sanctions against Russia for the first anniversary of the war, the tenth package of restrictive measures approved on February 24.

On February 3, the President of the European Council, Charles Micheljoins Zelensky and Von der Leyen in the Ukrainian capital to take part in the first EU-Ukraine summit since the Russian invasion.

So far, according to community sources, the EU has invested 67 billion euros in Ukraine since the start of the wartaking into account the macro-financial assistance, the military support provided bilaterally by the Member States and the aid mobilized for Ukrainian refugees displaced by the conflict.

The EU is currently considering how to rapidly provide Ukraine with the ammunition it urgently needs to continue defending against Russian forces while replenishing its stockpiles, an issue which EU defense ministers Union will discuss at their informal meeting on 7 and 8 March in Stockholm.
