The dark case of the urologist imprisoned at home for having abused 17 patients: he attacked again and will return to prison for recidivism

At the end of 2019 and after being imprisoned for a year and a half, the Oral Tribunal No. 2 of La Plata benefited from a “morigeration of preventive detention” for Pablo Francisco Colaci (49 years old), a urologist from the capital of Buenos Aires accused of abuse of at least 17 of his patients. In other words, it allowed him to await the oral trial at his private home and allowed him to work. However, the doctor has again hit the headlines for having added to his list an alleged sexual offense against another patient: a 23-year-old accused him of having raped him while he was treating him in his office. Colaci will again be behind bars.

As confirmed by police and judicial sources to GlobeLiveMedia, the new charge relates to an abuse that allegedly occurred on July 4, 2022 in an office located in the Barrio Norte de La Plata. There, apparently, the urologist made the young man pull down his pants and take off his underwear, on the pretext that he had to put a cream on his genitals. The complaint shakes. In this context, the professional would have taken advantage of the situation to give him a blowjob twice.

“He started to examine it and access it in a carnal and oral way,” a senior source with access to the investigation he is leading told this media. the prosecutor of the UFI Nº1 of La Plata, Ana Medina. According to the investigator, the situation caused trouble for the young man. He had psychiatric problems, was hospitalized and even lost his job.

After several declarations in which it was difficult for her to recount what she had suffered and expertise carried out by the forensic body in relation to the previous events in the same hospital, the judicial officer gathered sufficient evidence to request the arrest of the urologist. The Judge of Guarantees Nº2, Eduardo Silva Pelossi approved the request and the arrest took place at the hands of the DDI of La Plata.

Court sources say the doctor gave evidence to prosecutor Medina yesterday and denied – as he had before – abusing the 23-year-old. He said it was an attempt to tarnish his name, that “these are normal professional practices” and “he did nothing wrong”..

In this sense, they indicated that it is a matter of hours for the benefit of the revocation of preventive detention to be revoked. For now, the new prosecution will follow a different path than the other 17 alleged abusers, whose oral trial is about to begin.

The Medina prosecutor now has at least 15 days to decide whether to request Colaci’s preventive detention. This period can be extended by another 15 if necessary. “If the case is brought to justice quickly, it is interpreted that it will be added to the other file”, they specified. Charge number 18 is now added to the abuse cases he has already had. This time it is the crime of sexual abuse with seriously offensive carnal access.

Since March 2018, the urologist Colaci has been imprisoned because, according to the investigation carried out at the time by the prosecutor of La Plata Betina Lacki, he is a serial abuser. After gathering numerous pieces of evidence and as indicated in the file, the doctor committed 15 Truly Outrageous Sexual Assaults for the victim due to the circumstances of his execution and two other cases of sexual abuse with carnal access, aggravated by causing serious damage to the health of the victim.

Judge Pablo Raele ordered preventive detention and he was imprisoned in an individual cell, in the aggressors’ pavilion, of the Roberto Petinatto prison complex, located in the town of Lisandro Olmos, in the district of La Plata. However, for good behavior and because the Court held that “It would not hinder the investigation”, he benefited from the domiciliation and the authorization to work.

According to police chronicles at the time, Colaci was arrested in his office at a clinic in the town of Ensenada where a laptop, cell phone and patient records were seized. Investigators gathered evidence to suspect that the abuse began at least since March 2015, in one of the offices of this medical center.

One of the victims said – according to the Telam agency – that “he made her lie down on her back, lowered her pants and her underpants and sat down next to her to lean on on her body and placed a cream and drops on her sex”. Then “he began to perform masturbation maneuvers”. Later, new victims approached and told what they would have suffered at the hands of the professional.

His defense at the time was the same: He said it was an attempt to tarnish his reputation..

The urologist is a well-known professional in La Plata and is not improvised in the matter. While detained at his home in June 2021 received an award from the National Academy of Medicine. It was for work on the recurrence of kidney tumors which he carried out with a scientific team: four urologists from the Evita Pueblo de Berazategui Hospital and two researchers from the Histology Chair of the National University of La Plata (UNLP).

The distinction was for their work “Laparoscopic partial nephrectomies in a public hospital: surgical technique, postoperative survival and biomarkers”, in which they postulated a new way to prevent the recurrence of kidney cancer.

As La Plata media recall, Colaci graduated in 2000 from the Faculty of Medicine of the National University of La Plata. He was Head of Practical Work of the Histology and Embryology Chair and professor of urology at the Inter-American Open University.
