Constitutional Commission (Andean)

The Committee of Constitution and Rules of Congressled by legislator Fujimorista Hernando Guerra Garciawill meet again today to continue discussion of the bill which brings forward the general election as soon as possible to end the political crisis which began in December last year.

As it is already public, there is a forecast that states that the elections to renew the Executive there Legislative be done in December of this year and the change of command takes place on May 1, 2024. The new presidential term would run until July 28, 2028.

The same goes for the parliamentariansbut they are sworn April 30, 2024 and they stay until July 26, 2028.

For their part, the five representatives of the Andean Parliament will be elected alongside the municipal and regional elections of 2026. They will then take up their duties on January 1, 2027 and will remain in office until July 26, 2028.

No mention of a referendum consult the population if they wish the installation of a Constituent Assembly.

Previously, proposals from members of Congress such as Edgar Reymundo (Democratic Change), Hamlet Echeverría (Democratic Peru) and Silvana Robles (Free Peru) that the elections are in April and a question about the voter was rejected.

Additionally, the initiatives of Nieves Limachi (Democratic Peru), Paul Gutiérrez (Teacher Block) and Susel Paredes (outside the group) who are betting on October as the month of new elections.

Likewise, the idea of Executive powerwho proposed October 2023also had no support.
