Clashes between manteros and the police at the Retiro

The government of Buenos Aires deployed a security operation this morning near the Retiro stations where a program of pedestrian detours, transit and transfer of bus stops is being implemented, while hawkers They are concentrated in a square in the neighborhood awaiting a response from the authorities concerning their relocation, after being evicted from the place where they were carrying out their work on the public highway.

After 12, this group of workers had a clash with the police. Yesterday they had already closed Ramos Mejía Avenue to protest against the measure and denounce “the lack of answers to the problems of street workers”.

“We are waiting for the answer, we continue our fight until we get a space. We are 200 families living day by day from this. They told us that at 12 p.m. they would give us the answer. We are peaceful , we are workers,” said Zulma Benítez, who sells jewelry in the Retiro neighborhood, in statements to a television station.

Another vendor added that one possibility is that they will be relocated to inner streets: “We are waiting for answers to see what we can do, what they did to us is not worthy. We want to work, otherwise we will continue the fight,” he said.

The work plan for the redevelopment of the public space provides for the intervention of 4,500 square meters of sidewalks and the stops of the transfer center with electrical installation and development of furniture.

As stated in a statement, during the duration of the works, two lanes of Ramos Mejía Avenue will be activated exclusively for pedestrian traffic between the stations and seven bus stops and two taxi stops will be transferred.

There is a partial cut in José María Ramos Mejía Avenue, between Antártida Argentina Avenue and the access to the Line C metro station, and pedestrian traffic is diverted to the two lanes adjacent to the sidewalk train and bus stations. .

Regarding the relocation of bus stops, the stops of lines 28, 70, 75, 92, 100, 101 and 150 located on José María Ramos Mejía, between Avenida Antártida Argentina and Padre Mugica, are canceled and moved to hostels which are located in front of Plaza Canada.

Thus, line 28 will have the same location as the stop for line 143; line 70 identical to line 33; bus 75 will stop where number 20 currently stops and line 92 will coincide with stop 91.

In the meantime, line 100 will have the same location as the stop for line 115; 101 at the line 5 bus stop and 150 buses will stop where line 108 currently stops.

The rest of the lines and their stops were not affected by the works.

For its part, the entries of the stations Belgrano Norte and San Martín are activated by the side doors. Meanwhile, the taxi stand in front of the Miter line station continues in its usual location and the one in front of the Belgrano Norte station operates parallel to the fences.

The stops in front of the bus station operate on Ramos Mejía Avenue opposite Antártida Argentina Avenue.
