Taiwan’s Defense Ministry said on Tuesday it has full knowledge of military activities near Taiwan and will dispatch forces appropriately in reaction to “enemy threats” as tensions with China.

The ministry said in a statement that it has the “determination, ability and confidence” to ensure Taiwan’s national security, adding that it has made several unspecified plans for an emergency.

Early on Tuesday, a number of Chinese warplanes flew close to the median line of the delicate Taiwan Strait, a source briefed on the matter told Reuters, as tensions rose over reports that the Speaker of the US House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi was going to visit Taiwan for the day.
