Supermarket sales recorded a cumulative improvement of 1.6% in 2022, after closing operations in December with a 2% decline compared to the same month in 2021, as reported today by the National Institute of statistics and censuses (Indec). Compared to November, the last month of last year also saw a decline of 5.1% measured at constant prices.

In large shopping centers or malls, the cumulative figure for 2022 reflects a rise of 35.1%, while sales in self-service wholesalers saw a 0.6% drop in sales compared to 2021.

As for supermarkets, the INDEC report detailed that total sales at current prices totaled $359,733.1 million in December, with an increase of 95.5% compared to the same month of the previous year.

In total sales at current prices, the groups of articles which have experienced the most significant increases compared to the same month of the previous year are: “Primeurs et primeurs”, 143.4%; “Ready meals and roasting”, 113.9%; “Beverages”, 111.9%; and “Bakery”, 110.4%.

In shopping centers, for their part, total sales at current prices of shopping centers located in the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires reached a total of 36,911 million dollars, with a percentage increase of 103.8% year-on-year. .

Meanwhile, across Greater Buenos Aires’ 24 games, sales were $36,289.1 million, up 133.9% year-on-year.

Finally, in self-service wholesalers, total sales at list prices totaled $61,305.6 million in the last month of 2022, up 103.5% from December 2021.

In total sales at current prices, during the month of December 2022, the item groups with the largest increases compared to the same month of the previous year were: “Merchants and primeurs”, 134.7% ; “Bakery”, 134.0%; “Clothing, footwear and home textiles”, 127.6%; “Beverages”, 112.9%; and “Cleaning and perfumery articles”, 107.7%.
