Madrid, March 3. The Spanish company ACS, through its Australian subsidiary Thiess, has been awarded the extension of a mining services contract in Chile for an amount close to 100 million euros (106 million dollars).

The works will be carried out at the Llano project, located in the Sierra Gorda district of Antofagasta, the capital of the Atacama Desert mining area in the north of the country.

The services will be provided to Minera Centinela, a joint venture between Antofagasta Minerals (70%) and Marubeni Corporation (30%), Thiess reported on Friday.

The contract, which will begin in March, includes mining, maintenance and asset management services in copper mining.

According to Thiess Executive Chairman Michael Wright, the company has had a presence in Chile for seven years and with the extension of this contract will strengthen its relationship with Minera Centinela.

The commitment is to make Llano the most sustainable project in the Americas through measures to increase operating efficiency and reduce carbon footprint.

Thiess has also partnered with local providers to deliver essential services and has pledged to hire local workers who live near the mine and double the number of women employed. EFE
