The coronavirus pandemic has changed the habits of consumers when making purchases. For this reason, customers have begun to evaluate options such as being able to make purchases from home, cleaning or respect for protection measures against the coronavirus.
Unifying all these factors, The Organization of Consumers and Users (OCU) has drawn up a ranking of the best supermarkets of the year in Spain.
Customers’ favorite supermarket, according to the OCU, is Bonpreu, a Catalan chain of stores. With this, it has managed to revalidate its position in 2020, when it was also chosen as the best in the country. Behind her have been other more recognized brands at the national level, such as Mercadona, Día or Aldi.
For the development of this list, the OCU has made available to customers a survey that included questions from various fields that was filled out by 5,800 people.
Regional stores outperform national stores
Bonpreu has obtained 85 valuation points out of a maximum of 100. After him are other regional brands, such as Plusfrésc, Bonàrea or Esclat, with 84 points. Closing the list are national supermarkets, such as Aldi (82), Hipercor (81), El Corte Inglés (81), Lidl (80), AhorraMás (80) or Mercadona (80).
These results show the importance that citizens attach to supermarkets being close to their home or work. In fact, 31% of customers They assure that this is their main concern when choosing a store. 22% prioritize product quality, while 20% focus more on prices.
Shopping on weekdays and in the morning
Most of the consumers, 82% go to do the shopping every day. In addition, customers prefer to go to supermarkets in the morning, 54%, compared to 34% who go in the afternoon and 12% who go between 7:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m.
On the other hand, 59% of the population who go to buy do so 1 or 2 times a week, while before the pandemic 27% of the public went three or four times a week. Actually, 27% go less than a day compared to 11% who go three or four times, 2% who go five or six and 1% who go every day.
