NEW YORK.- A gas explosion at a condo unit in the Bronx injured nine people, six of whom are children, the FDNY reported.

The victims of the explosion were rushed to nearby hospitals. A child and an adult are in critical condition, an FDNY official told our sister network NBC New York.

At least one other of the injured is seriously ill, the fire department said, while the other victims suffered only minor injuries.

Eight of the injured are civilians and a firefighter was also injured, according to authorities.

The condos where the blast occurred are located near the corner of Poplar Street and Paulding Avenue in Morris Park. It was not immediately clear what caused the explosion or at what time it happened.

In the images it is observed that the main door of one of the units was ejected due to the powerful explosion and ended up in the power lines on the other side of the street.

The Department of Buildings said in a tweet that inspectors are heading to the site to verify the structural stability of the units after the explosion, as reported by Telemundo.
