The Archdiocese of Rosario addresses the delicate social situation of the city

The serious situation of insecurity in the city of Rosario, trapped by the actions of drug trafficking, prompted the Archdiocese of the City of Santa Fe to issue a statement referring to the matter.

Yesterday, the Social Ministry of the Archdiocese of Rosario issued a statement titled An injustice that cries out to the sky, in reference to the words of Pope Paul VI (June 1963 – August 1978) pronounced on March 26, 1967 in his encyclical letter development of peoples.

In point 30, with regard to the temptation to violencethe former Sovereign Pontiff declared that “it is true that there are situations whose injustice cries out to heaven”. And he continued in his statement by declaring that “when entire populations, lacking the necessities, live in such dependence which prevents them from any initiative and responsibility, as well as from any possibility of cultural promotion and participation in social life and politically, there is a great temptation to violently reject such gross insults to human dignity”.

In this regard, the Archdiocese of Rosario, took up the first words of Paul VI and declared: “Our dignity is ignored and flouted”. “Not only because of the poverty which punishes large sectors, but also because of the violence which anguishes us”, he added.

In the words of the clergy of Rosario, “the lack of employment, health, education, horizons of meaning in life, a weakened pension system, degraded public institutions, damage to the environment, a ethical decadence, have generated fertile ground for addictions and drug trafficking to take root.

Regarding this scourge that rages in the city, the Church has maintained that it is a “matter of macabre interestswhose growth can only be explained if it is sheltered from the sectors of power”.

Another fragment of the statement says that “injustice grows and cries to heaven more for the absence of responses from the different levels of the State represented by magistrates and civil servants legally appointed in a democracy”.

In reference to the latter, the Church thinks that the command of the State “is delegitimized by an exercise of what does not generate the necessary lucid, determined and courageous public policies and which we have claimed so many times in echo of the suffering of the people”.

According to the ecclesiastical commanders of Rosario, the provincial government is targeted to take charge of the situation because “nobody can say that he does not have responsibilities or something to contribute to the solution, but it is the authorities who have the greater resources both to eliminate the causes and the disastrous consequences of criminal violence”.

The statement emphasizes that “in this Archdiocesan Marian Year, we ask our Mother of the Rosary who inspires all citizensbut above all to political, economic and social leadership so that, leaving aside interests and pettinessreach the essential consensus that must be the basis of these lucid, determined and courageous public policies to be implemented”, emphasizing the current magistrates and civil servants “democratically elected”.

“Only in this way can the long-awaited peace be achieved, which will allow the fraternal coexistence that we deserve,” the statement concluded.
