Senate of the Republic (Senate)

The Committees Unit of the Second Interior and Legislative Studies of the Senate of the Republic discuss the call Electoral Reform Plan B. From 5:00 p.m. on Monday, February 20, lawmakers began the analysis, after two weeks.

The bill under discussion consists in abolishing the Section 12 of the Law on Electoral Institutions and Procedures, with regard to the “eternal life clause”, which establishes the transfer of votes in the coalition parties, with which parties that do not obtain the minimum number of votes established by law would survive.

In this exchange of ideas between the legislators of the different political forces, the vast majority declared themselves against the transfer of votes. “It does not fit into the reform package of the 395 articles of these three reformed laws and a new law,” explained Mónica Fernández, president of the Governance Commission.
