Women’s Club America striker Scarlett Camberos and her family are considering terminating their contract with the institution following the harassment she suffered in February through social networks, which had been hacked by someone she had previously reported for the same situation.

Mexican-American Scarlett Camberos had to flee with her family to the United States after someone stole the footballer’s accounts and posted messages in her name. This situation arose after the striker reported that she had been harassed by a club fan who allegedly was responsible for the theft.

Following this incident, the Register newspaper reported that sources close to the player stated that Scarlett’s intention is not to return to play in Mexico due to the lack of support from Mexican authorities who, after almost a month, are still unable to solve the case and find the person responsible.

Camberos’ first complaint came in July 2022 when, through her social networks, she asked her followers for their support to report fake accounts in her name that had been created by a man who harassed her, not only virtually but also at the Coapa training facilities for Team America.

This same individual had already been singled out for the same situation by Camberos’ colleagues Jana Gutiérrez and Selene Valera, even causing a lawsuit for the situation, which did not benefit them. Seven months later, the same person intercepted Camberos’ accounts to clear his name and divert attention.

One of the publications made at the time mentioned that the blue cream striker had a relationship with this individual and that all of the above had only been invented to cover up their love story. The hacking of her networks was reported by the player’s father, who requested that the alleged stalker not participate in the game.

The Women’s Liga MX and Club America spoke out against what happened, stating that Scarlett Camberos would be supported in whatever was necessary to resolve what was related to her social networks and to increase awareness of situations related to violence against women.

The Mexican Football Players Association (AMF) also spoke out, recognizing the value of the player in denouncing this situation and trying to make it visible, looking to prevent it from happening to any other player.

After this situation, Scarlett attended the call for the Mexican women’s team to participate in the Women’s Revelations Cup held in León, Guanajuato. After the tournament, the striker received special permission from the club to be absent for a few days and spend them with her family, who live in the United States.

So far, Scarlett has not participated in two games of the Liga MX Women’s League. Her last match was against Santos on Matchday 6 on February 9th. America traveled to Los Angeles for a friendly duel against Angel City when Camberos was expected to join the team, as her family resides in this location.

This will be the defining moment for her to decide if she will continue with the team or definitively announce her departure from the establishment, given the lack of response from authorities in Mexico City. However, Azulcremas fans may hold onto the hope that she has already been able to regain control of her Instagram account.
