Moscow, February 20. Veteran Russian rocker Yuri Shevchuk released a music video against Russia’s military campaign in Ukraine on the eve of the war’s first anniversary, which falls on February 24.

“Motherland, come home” is the title of the song, in which Shevchuk is accompanied by young musician Dmitri Yemeliánov.

The video for the song, whose lyrics were penned by the veteran musician in the middle of last year, has already received nearly 700,000 views on YouTube.

“Don’t go crazy, it’s not your war / The towers await you in the fields in the spring / Fatherland, come home,” goes the song’s chorus.

In mid-May, Shevchuk, 65, had already publicly denounced “the special military operation” during a concert in Oufa, a city in the Urals.

“The fatherland, friends, it’s not the president’s ass that you have to lick and kiss all the time. The fatherland is the grandmother who lives in misery and sells potatoes at the station. It’s the homeland”, he said, words that were acclaimed by the public.

Furthermore, he added: “Now they are killing people in Ukraine. For what? Our boys are dying there. Once again the youth of Russia and Ukraine are dying, old men, women and children are dying for certain Napoleonic plans of our ‘Caesar’ in service”.

For this reason, the Russian authorities have opened an administrative file against the musician, leader of the DDT group.

Subsequently, several Shevchuk concerts were canceled, allegedly for security reasons and on the recommendation of local authorities.

Shevchuk lamented that “rock is still dangerous to many” and challenged his fans to guess “for who?”

Russian authorities have over the past 12 months canceled the concerts of numerous musical groups whose members publicly criticized President Vladimir Putin and the Russian military. EFE
