The former president was honored with the Rota medal, which he received from the governor

Former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL), governor Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicans) and mayor Ricardo Nunes (MDB) met again in São Paulo on Monday (16), at an event marking the 53rd anniversary of Rota (Rondas Ostensivas Tobias de Aguiar).

The trio appeared together amid uncertainty about Bolsonaro’s support for Nunes’ re-election.

At the event, held in the central region of São Paulo, there was praise for Rota and defense of Operation Shield, in Baixada Santista, marked by reports of police violence. The governor also praised Rota and mentioned the operation, launched after the death of a police officer from the battalion.

Bolsonaro was introduced at the ceremony as the “eternal president” and received applause and shouts of “myth”.

The former president was honored with the Rota medal, which he received from Tarcísio. Bolsonaro did not make a speech and only paraded with the battalion’s veterans.

Tarcísio, as he usually does at public events, thanked his political godfather and praised the achievements of the former president’s administration, in which he participated as a minister.

After the event at Rota, Bolsonaro went to the Municipal Market, where he stayed for a few minutes.

In August, Nunes, Tarcísio and Bolsonaro had lunch at the city hall.

As Folha showed, enthusiasts of Nunes’ re-election are betting on a partnership with governor Tarcísio de Freitas to reverse the mayor’s wear and tear with the deterioration of the center and turn the region into an electoral showcase next year.

Among the Emedebista’s aides, the governor’s support in the election campaign is considered crucial, especially given the impasse over the alliance with Bolsonaro.

This week, the Legislative Assembly is due to vote on Tarcísio’s bill that includes an amnesty for fines imposed during the Covid-19 pandemic. The proposal faces obstruction from the opposition and has created a new embarrassment between the governor and his allies in Alesp.

The Bolsonaro government wants to approve a proposal that facilitates the collection of active debt, a measure that has the sympathy of most parliamentarians. The issue is the so-called jabuti of the bill – an article that forgives the debts from the pandemic fines and which is seen as a benefit for former president Jair Bolsonaro.

For not wearing a mask and causing crowds, Bolsonaro was fined at least six times by the João Doria (PSDB) administration. The debt has already reached R$1.1 million, and the government has started to charge the former president in ongoing legal actions.
