Ricardo Monreal said the middle class will be key towards 2024 but he found his endorsement of Morena difficult

Ricardo MontrealSenator of the National Regeneration Movement (Morena), appealed to acquire one of the sectors that President Andrés Manuel Lopez Obrador (AMLO) ruled against: middle class.

It should be remembered that the man from Tabasco starred in various episodes in which members of said social stratum rejected the disqualifications with which some members of it were called “small unscrupulous aspirations” e “easy handling”.

However, for the aspirant also to succeed Tabasco to the presidency of the Republic, he affirmed that said sector of the population appears as one of the most important factors towards 2024 presidential candidates and whose relevance, he added, was demonstrated by the two protests against Electoral Reform Plan B, held on February 26 and November 17.

And although the citizens who took to the streets of Mexico City (CDMX) and other entities joining “the pink tide” would represent an “adversary” of the so-called Fourth Transformation (4T), Monreal Ávila pointed out their politicization and participation on political issues – and therefore “hard to convince and easy to lose”.

“That’s where the dark legend comes from that they are politically manipulated and malleable,” he added.

“The mesocratic sectors of a country will seek the political option that guarantees them the realization of their wine interests. (…) They have the social mobility and the economic freedom to do so”

Thus, the legislator predicted that the Mexican middle classes that consolidated two political alternations (led by the National Action Party (PAN) and Regeneración Nacional), predicts that in 2024, it will be difficult for the 4T to endorse the support of the population that López Obrador attacked. In this context, he called for strengthening efforts to preserve the governance of the country and the confidence of this sector.

“By 2024, MORENA’s ‘middle class recognition’ doesn’t look easy, but it doesn’t look like it’s turned to any other option either. There are 15 months left to avoid losing this strategic political ally for good”.
