Monreal assured that the vote to complete the INAI was a delicate matter (@azucenau)

The President of the Political Coordination Council (Jucopo) of the Senate, Ricardo Monreal Avila, accused parties opposed to the ruling party of influencing the vote for the nomination of the Ana Yadira Alarcon Marquez and Rafael Luna Arvizu as Commissioner of the National Institute for Transparency, Access to Information and Protection of Personal Data (Henna).

This March 1, in plenary session of the Senate, the members of the National Regeneration Movement (Morena) and the opposition parties met again in session because, despite the agreements concluded a few days earlier, the opponents of the government of the Fourth Transformation have accused a “cheating” during the process of selecting new heads of the information unit.

In this sense, the candidate also for the presidential candidacy pointed out that the positions of the opposing bloc would significantly affect the functioning of the INAI, a dependency that could “to starve” by not complementing its members in this vote, which is why he asked the parties to follow the agreements signed by the Political Coordination Council.

Furthermore, Ricardo Monreal, during a conversation with the media of the Upper House, pointed out that Morena had worked with his adversaries in order to effectively integrate the autonomous bodies.

“Morena showed an attitude (…) now part of the opposition insists on the no, and we have the risk that If we don’t reach agreements, the INAI could starve. That is, if it does not have the five names, it will not work after the termination, ”said the president of Jucopo del Senado.

The controversial discussion even led to the division of the bench of the National Action Party (PAN), some of its members having denounced not to agree with the elected officials. However, Blue and White Senators coordinator Julen Ramenteria stressed that his party would not break previously signed agreements and that if some of his colleagues objected, it was a purely personal decision.

“The agreement in fact I signed it and the PAN will support it. Maybe someone from the PAN does not accompany him but that is a problem, as I hear here from a person who does not go with the agreement with Morena, ”said the leader of the senators of ‘National Action.

For his part, lawmaker Damian Zepeda, a member of the PAN, was one of the accusers in the voting process, as he pointed out that the selection had been involved in a matter of “buddies and quotas”, since his party and Morena had not elected the most qualified to join the INAI, which is why he criticized his parliamentary group for supporting these practices.

“We had a candidate who had 100% (qualification). This day this Senate of the Republic does not deign to put it. “Ah, if you’re going to promote this profile, then I promoted this one.” And this is where we come into the problem of friends and quotas, which has hurt this country so much,” the PAN member said.

For his part, the Morenista Felix Salgado Macedonio, contrary to what his colleague Monreal would have said, assured that the process would continue its course because the agreements signed in Jucopo had been accepted by the group leaders of each opposition party.

It should be mentioned that the vote to select the commissioners of the INAI had been delayed for almost a year, after the end of the voting periods in 2022. Oscar Guerra and Rosendoevgueni Monterrey. In view of this, the president of the news agency, Blanca Lilia Ibarra, he reportedly warned the Senate that if a decision on membership was not made, the institute could have serious repercussions on its operation.
